We are trying to create an edible garden using [[permaculture]]. Since the grounds are poor in nutrients we have decided to enliven it not with animal or chemical manure, but by using plants that can do this. This green manure is a mixture of many native plants. We found a great mixture here: [[http://www.medigran.nl/mengsels.php?id=108|seeds]] We are also planning to put in (native) fruits for the church community, neighbours and local wildlife to enjoy. More on this follows.. * pictures of the garden project can be found on [[http://www.flickr.com/photos/foam/sets/72157612960226575/|flickr]] <blockquote> **Developments:**\\ On Satuday 11 April (2009) we have started by sowing the seed mixture. We used about 50% more of the mixture than was advised, because you don't really see many seeds on the soil when your actually sowing. So let's see what happens..\\ On Tuesday 14 April the first minuscule sprouts have appeared! Sticking to a slow tempo is not easy, due to enthusiasm we've decided to already plant some small fruits this year. I've bought some Gooseberry, Blackcurrant and Raspberry. Jaques is looking for grapes. Tuesday 28 April: we're putting the fruits in the garden tonight. Thursday 28 May: Wietske and Cocky determined the wild herbs growing in the part of the garden that remained untouched by gardeners, results below. Saturday 30 May: Harvesting the wild herbs to make elixirs for our event. </blockquote> === Wild herbs found in Garden === Herderstasje - Capsella bursa-pastoris http://www.pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Capsella+bursa-pastoris Melganzenvoet - Chenopodium album http://www.pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Chenopodium+album Grote en kleine Brandnetel - Urtica dioica, Urtica urens Schijf kamille Matricaria discoidea http://www.pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Matricaria+matricarioides Spiesmelde - Atriplex prostata Herik - Sinapis arvensis http://www.pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Sinapis+arvensis Dovenetel - Lamium album http://www.pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Lamium+album Vogelmuur - Stellaria media http://www.pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Stellaria+media Koolzaad - Brassica napus Grote weegbree - Plantago major http://www.pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Plantago+major Perzik kruid - Persicaria maculosa http://www.pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Polygonum+persicaria Speerdistel - Cirsium vulgare Vlierbloesem - Sambucus nigra Hondsroos Rosa canina http://www.pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Rosa+canina Boshavikskruid - Hieracium sabaudum Beklierde duizendknoop - Polygonum lapathifolium http://www.pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Polygonum+lapathifolium Harige knopkruid - Galinsoga quadriradiata komt overeen met Kaal knopkruid? We have invited: [[http://www.annetbult.nl/|Annet Bult]] / [[http://www.urbanibalism.org/|Wietske Maas]] / [[http://www.dg-c.org/|Christina Della Guistina]] to think about participating in this event. And there will also be a seed-balling workshop in with the help of Samma Mutsaers. ----- === More info on gardening === * For more info on edible gardens: [[edible_gardening]] * Seed-nurseries: [[edible_gardens_seed_nurseries]] * Some examples of edible guilds for the Benelux region: [[edible_guilds]] * see also: [[category_gardens]]Please fill all the letters into the box to prove you're human.
