-The Ocean Connects Us was a daylong event at the Trinity Buoy Wharf on the bank of the River Thames. It was a day of participatory experiences, learning and exchange – including the launch of new research from the FrameWorks Institute into how the public thinks about marine conservation – to build on what works, strengthen existing connections, seed new ones and explore possible new approaches in communicating the value of the ocean in people’s lives. -CGF UK, [[https://twitter.com/hashtag/oceanvalue?src=hash|#Oceanvalue]] </blockquote>+The Ocean Connects Us was a daylong event at the Trinity Buoy Wharf on the bank of the River Thames.  The Ocean Connects Us was an event in which the participants were invited to share and learn from each other about communicating the value of the ocean. After short framing speeches by [[https://gulbenkian.pt/en/the-foundation/our-team/board-of-trustees/martin-essayan-trustee-2010-2015/|Martin Essayan]] and [[https://www.zsl.org/users/heather-koldewey|Heather Koldewey]], the morning began with exchanging past experiences of [[the_ocean_connects_us#sense|valuing the ocean]], to then [[the_ocean_connects_us#observe|observe]] what is emerging from the participants’ current [[https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1920GDCo4WYSY9KOfUxwIlSpCzGM&ll=10.516256681185387%2C147.7559278499999&z=2|collaborations]]. During lunch the participants were invited to visit the [[http://www.trinitybuoywharf.com/whats-on/event/longplayer|Longplayer]] installation in the adjacent lighthouse and have spent time immersed in artworks by [[http://www.marieleneudecker.co.uk/|Mariele Neudecker]], [[http://www2.hull.ac.uk/fass/english/our-staff/clarke,-dr-john.aspx|John Wedgwood-Clarke]] and [[https://robmackay.net/|Rob Mackay]] (curated by [[http://invisibledust.com/|Invisible Dust]]). The afternoon was focused on investigating how to more [[the_ocean_connects_us#investigate|effectively communicate]] the value of the ocean, today and in the future. First by hearing from [[http://www.frameworksinstitute.org/staff-and-fellows.html#oneil|Moira O’Neil]] from the [[http://www.frameworksinstitute.org/|Frameworks Institute]] about their report [[https://gulbenkian.pt/uk-branch/wp-content/uploads/sites/18/2017/03/Getting-Below-The-Surface.pdf|Getting Below The Surface]], then by [[the_ocean_connects_us#prototype|applying]] the Institute's findings as recommendations to concrete projects. The conversation moved towards the future of the sea with a short speech by [[https://foresightprojects.blog.gov.uk/category/sea/|Henry Green]], as an introduction to the last participatory session. The participants distilled [[the_ocean_connects_us#enact|insights]] from the day as questions and principles towards a manifesto for an ocean friendly society.
