Here is the documentation of making experiments I performed during my Transiency. Making seems to be a performance-enhancing activity complementary to mind-centered work. Increasing the amount of making activities in my schedule is therefore part of my research towards Self-Sufficiency as well as my research towards a more efficient and pleasant [[michka:daily_schedule_scheme|Daily Schedule Scheme]]. | One of my objectives this year was to improve my know-how skills through making experiments. I also wanted to see how including making in my daily schedule would impact my concentration during mind-centered activities. |

===Bioproductive Balcony=== | After being involved in the P2P Food Lab project as a Subsidies Proposal Writing Assistant, and developing some DIY bio-sourced electronics to monitor a garden, the next logical step is to... garden. I therefore started a [[michka:know-hows/bioproductive_balcony|Bioproductive Balcony]] experiment on FoAM's balcony. |
| |
Self-sufficiency starts with one of our most basic needs: Food. I will therefore try to learn the basic of gardening this year. FoAM gave me their balcony as an experimental space for an urban vertical garden. I will try to make the most of this space, including the valorisation of some of these byproducts for non-alimentary activities. | Otherwise, I identified some [[michka:know-hows:urban_foraging|sources]] of not-so-waste materials, [[michka/know-hows/pallet_dismantling|dismantled some pallets]], [[michka:know-hows:recipes|cooked]], and folded some [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Zd-Uc5Kgco|origami envelopes]] for seed storage and exchange. |
| |
[[michka:know-hows/bioproductive_balcony|Here]] is the page dedicated to this experiment. | I ended up mixing up making and research to build up supercapacitors, microbial fuel cells, cook materials or grow kombucha, and more. |

==Obtaining Raw Materials==
| |
Everytime I walk through Brussels, I stumble on hundreds of kilos of not-that-waste materials. Rather than buying new materials, I will try to make the most of this existing resource to make objects.
| |
However, matching what you need with what you find needs a little bit of strategy. I will therefore document here my [[:michka:know_hows:urban_foraging|Urban Foraging]] experiments and good practices.
| |
An abundant urban waste-resource material is wood, mainly in the shape of pallets. Here is what I learned during my two first [[:michka/know-hows/pallet_dismantling|pallet dismantling]] experiments.

Make [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Zd-Uc5Kgco|Origami envelopes]]. Only old paper is needed, no glue. I use them to pack up seeds for the bioproductive balcony, or to exchange them through [[http://www.grainesdetroc.fr|Graines de troc]] and [[http://www.plantcatching.com|Plant Catching]].

I prepared [[:michka/know-hows/tomatillo_chutney|Tomatillo's chutney]] out of green tomatillos which were kindly offered to me by [[http://opengreens.okno.be/person.php?id=85|Annemie]] after a day spent working in her [[http://annemariemaes.net/research/urban-corridors/urban-artfarm-2012/|rooftop garden]].

Being an absolute fan of [[:michka/cramique|cramique]], the famous raisins-containing Belgian brioche, I decided I would try to cook it myself.
