Foamlab and the Jeruzalemkerk have started an edible urban garden in Amsterdam-West. We are trying to create an edible garden using permaculture.

Since the grounds are poor in nutrients we have decided to enliven it not with animal or chemical manure, but by using plants that can do this. This green manure is a mixture of many native plants. We found a great mixture here: seeds

We are also planning to put in (native) fruits for the church community, neighbours and local wildlife to enjoy. More on this follows..

Developments:
On Satuday 11 April (2009) we have started by sowing the seed mixture. We used about 50% more of the mixture than was advised, because you don't really see many seeds on the soil when your actually sowing. So let's see what happens..
On Tuesday 14 April the first minuscule sprouts have appeared! Sticking to a slow tempo is not easy, due to enthusiasm we've decided to already plant some small fruits this year. I've bought some Gooseberry, Blackcurrant and Raspberry. Jaques is looking for grapes. Tuesday 28 April: we're putting the fruits in the garden tonight. Thursday 28 May: Wietske and Cocky determined the wild herbs growing in the part of the garden that remained untouched by gardeners, results below. Saturday 30 May: Harvesting the wild herbs to make elixirs for our event.

This is an event in the Junikunstmaand (June 27th) to be held at the church about new roles for plants in urban lives and on urban tongues (of many species hopefully).

We have invited: Annet Bult / Wietske Maas / Christina Della Guistina to think about participating in this event. And there will also be a seed-balling workshop in with the help of Samma Mutsaers.
